Description Unknown 2002-11-05 03:02:12 UTC
Taking a file originally from PowerPoint 2002 (XP, modifying it using
OpenOffice, and saving it as a PowerPoint file results in a file which looks
fine on the screen, but which prints with wrong fonts and character sizes in
PowerPoint 2002 (but prints cleanly in PowerPoint 97).

I have a sample PowerPoint 2002 file which prints cleanly using
- PowerPoint 2002 under Windows 2000
- PowerPoint 97 under Windows 2000
- Impress (version 1.0.0 and also build 643) under Windows ME

I have a sample PowerPoint 2002 file modified (from above) by OpenOffice build
643 (Impress) which
- looks and prints fine using OpenOffice under Windows ME
- looks and prints fine using PowerPoint 97 under Windows 2000
- looks fine, prints "badly" using PowerPoint 2002 under Windows 2000.
"badly" = Wrong font, wrong point size, wrong boldness in the text block which
was modified. I get the same results with version 1.0.0 and with build 643.

I will email sample files to you if you tell me where to send them.
The problem seems repeatable for me.

I can see the bug in the attached documents.
To reproduce:
- run a MS-Office xp on win 2000
- print both files
- they looks equal on screen but different after printing.

Sven, I think this is more in your area of competence.
Comment 9 sven.jacobi 2003-04-10 14:34:01 UTC
It seems that the only one who can fix this bug is Microsoft. Perhaps
someone should tell them about this problem :-)
Comment 10 christian.guenther 2003-04-22 10:30:59 UTC
According to the comment from Sven I set this issue to invalid.
Comment 11 christian.guenther 2003-04-22 10:31:20 UTC
I close the issue.

                      ORIGINATOR'S RESPONSE

If the same original file is edited by PowerPoint instead of by
OpenOffice, no problem appears. I don't believe that this is a
Microsoft bug (although it may be). Regardless, if OpenOffice is going
to cause this, it's going to be real hard to make a case for people to
go back and forth between OpenOffice and PowerPoint.

I suggest that you please re-examine your position on this, and
consider making OpenOffice work with PowerPoint. Closing this bug
report will not make the problem go away.

I appreciate all of the work that you and the rest of the team have
put into a mostly wonderful product that I get for free. However, I
believe that claiming compatibility with the PowerPoint file format is
not a consistent statement as long as this problem exists.

Best Wishes,
-- Ian Shef

Too late for beta2, re-targeted to 1.1 RC.
Comment 14 christian.guenther 2003-05-16 15:20:11 UTC
Please have a look to the comment from Ian.
Comment 15 marc.neumann 2003-05-21 11:04:07 UTC
change target to OOo 2.0, because we can't fix this in the RC timeframe.
Comment 16 sven.jacobi 2003-06-03 10:05:58 UTC
Needs to be investigated, I hope that we can fix this by rearranging
the character attributes in the PPT export, but this won't be easy and
cost some time.

Comment 20 speedy400 2005-08-18 11:35:33 UTC
I have confirmed this issue and it is preventing me from using Impress at home,
and Powerpoint at work. Once Impress modifies the file, I have not found any
way to correct the printing issue. Strangely, the problem only appears to affect
the font of the titles of all pages except page 1. It appears to change the font to
some default and cannot be changed back. The print preview looks normal but
the printed slides or handouts are wrong.

Attempts were made to replicate the bug in the following test environment, but  tests to reproduce the bug under MS Office XP / 2010 were unsuccessful;

Product: OOo Impress
Version: 4.0.1
Build: AOO401m5 (Build 9714), revision 15244958
Platform: Microsoft Windows XP/ Windows 8,
Software: Microsoft Office XP / 2010,
Hardware: Intel Core 2 Duo processor 1066 MHz T9800 (2.93HGz),
