Description cshewmaker 2008-05-20 19:41:07 UTC
Testing 3.0 beta I cannot save or print a new “Untitled†writer or calc file,
although I can open, save and print previously saved writer and calc files. I
run this program on a Compaq desktop running Vista. If I try to save, print or
close an “untitled†file, the system hangs, and I get a message that OpenOffice
3.0 is not responding. Waiting for it to respond does not work (at least for
up to 30 minute intervals.) I can close and exit a new file without hanging
the computer, if I do not save the file. 2.4 on this machine works just fine,
as it does on two other computers on my lan. Don't know if this is a bug, or a
problem with my download and installation. My workaround is to cut and paste
to an existing document, which will save, save as, and print just fine.
An “Untitled†file open when the system hangs is recovered when 3.0 is launched
again, but as a blank document. Documents previously saved with stable
versions of OOo, and with Word, opened with 3.0(including ones I've saved with
3.0, named “blankdocument†from which I've deleted all text) work normally, and
when recovered include all text existing at the time of the crash (caused by
the attempt to save an "Untitled" file.) Problem occurs whether I use key
strokes or mouse with text or icons. Would expect the same result for all
OpenOffice components, but have not tested the others.
