Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 89362
[JA][zh-CN][zh-TW][KO] Translation of "First/Last name/Initials"
Last modified: 2013-01-29 21:41:22 UTC
If you go Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> User Data, you will find "First/Last name/Initials" which is literally translated into Japanese: "名/姓/イニシャル(N)" But Japanese write Last name first, and First name follows. So I think "First/Last name/Initials" should be translated: "姓/名/イニシャル(N)"
FYI, the same applies for Russian too (plus additional Father's Name field). See related issue 69133 which can be a start point.

Fixed with Pootle.
Verified in CWS:localisation29 build.
Chinese version has the same problem in localization29 build. It should be "姓氏/名字/缩写(N)" in zh-CN, and "姓氏/名字/縮寫" in zh-TW reopen
I think maybe Korean version has this problem too. Please concern it.
jeongkyu: could you please check this issue? If problem exists for Korean, please change the summary and add [ko] (or something appropreate). thank you!
@maho: Thanks for pointing me this out. We have the same situation and I requested lead translator to fix this issue.
zh-CN and zh-TW are fixed in Pootle sw / source / ui / envelp.po Confirmed Korean is already fixed.
Closed.
This Issue is not improved only by having changed translation. The name entry field had better depend on locale. Please reopen this Issue.
Countries won't change the order of the family name and given name, and English version is using "First/Last name" but not "Given name/Family name", So I personally think current solution is acceptable. It's a less-effort and less-risk solution. Literally, First name is the Family name and last name is the given name in CJK locale.
reopen per request of naoyuki.
reassing per request
ishimura-san, please have a look at 69133 as rail suggested (the second comment of this issue). Russian had the similar problem. You may also want to discuss with tm@. Thanks,
I believe handling this problem (CJK First/Last name order issue) by translation has major drawback as Kamataki-san pointed out in Japanese mailing list. When the templates which use "First Name" and/or "Last Name" fields on 2.x is opened on 3.0, "First Name" and "Last Name" is reversed. In other words, when <text:sender-lastname text:fixed=false> and <text:sender-firstname text:fixed=false> elements in OOo2.x produced ODF, then 3.0 shows different meaning strings for them. So I think more preferable solution is the way of Russian issue (69133) took- if user's locale is CJK, option dialog should re-order its name fields, ie Last Name/First Name/Initial. I've filed new issue 103200 for this. And I'd like to revert the translation for these filed labels. Khirano, rejeongkyu, dflagzhulihua and blueice7, do you think this is reasonable?
Hi Nokiyu, I think it's the best solution if there is someone want to deal with it.
@naoyuki: I surely believe that your suggestion is more reasonable than the current workaround. I hope the suggestion is implemented asap to avoid possible confusion.
Hi naoyuki, Please consider the localization of somewhere where use this setting. For example, in the note. Seems the display of the author are not localized in the note. So if you localize this options setting, the display of author in notes need localized. or it will display family name behind, which is not suitable for us Asians. Any other places use this setting?
Hi blueice7 and jeongkyu, could you please revert the translation for "First/Last name/Initials"? This issue will be solved by issue 103200 (thanks bluewarf for providing patch!) and new message "Last/First names/Initials" will be introduced for 3.2 localization. Consequently "First/Last name/Initails" will not be used for 3.2 option dialog in CCJK locales , so reverting is not so critical , but problematic translation should be corrected anyway. When you finished the reverting, please add comments to this issue. Thanks!
@naoyuki & blueice7: I just reverted the translations in the pootle - 3 strings were found and fixed.
@naoyuki & blueice7: I just reverted the translations in the pootle - 3 strings were found and fixed. -> I meant this for Korean translation only. :-)
Hi redflagzhulihua, you are right. We need to take care of author string on everywhere not only option dialog. I've filed 103401 for Writer's Note. Please file a issue, if you notice other places which have the same issue. Thanks
Now, I can find it used in: File-Properties File-Versions Edit-Changes Insert-Fields-Author Insert-Fields-Other-Document-Author-Name Insert-Note Maybe it's used in more places. If there are, I'll tell you when I find them.
Thanks Lihua for listing this up. I've changed 103401 as generic issue not only Note. Please add the comments to 103401 if you find further places need to be modified.
Translation for zh-cn and zh-tw have been reverted.
