Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 89133
Option Space is the default language input source & it's hogged by OO
Last modified: 2013-01-29 21:43:52 UTC
Option space is the default language input source in MacOS X but OO3 beta on Mac OS X hogs it. Even disabling the shortcut of "Non-breaking-space" does not release the shortcut for selecting input language. This is a regression from OO2 since the X11 version works fine.
Reassigned to SBA.
You can change the shortcut to swap keyboard layouts in the Input Menu (System Prefs > International > Input Menu). I have mine set to Cmd-Spacebar and Opt-Cmd-Spacebar for next and previous. So this is not a disabling situation. You can choose another shortcut. I'm inclined to mark this INVALID since the user-function is not limited by it. However, I'll leave that to the devs. My shortcuts work in DEV300_m21 (Intel), but I'm not using Opt-Spacebar. Actually, using Opt-Spacebar in OpenOffice.org doesn't do anything, as far as I can tell.
Oddly enough, now my shortcuts don't work: I'm using Cmd-Space to swap layouts, and Opt-Cmd- Space to move on by one layout. I've tried these in several different configs and after rebooting, but the problem remains, so I'm confirming this issue.
To clytie: Re: your post dated: Jun 27 2008: It's not right to say this is not a disabling situation. If an application forces a system-wide shortcut (which is probably ingrained in the user experience through a long time of usage) to change, that is rather disabling. Applications should not take precedence over the OS GUI. They should rather conform. I'm also plagued by this issue, and it makes me continue to use the NeoOffice version as opposed to OO3Beta.
