Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 88925
bullet list arrows are confusing in rtl mode
Last modified: 2013-01-29 21:49:27 UTC
it is a usability issue. when in rtl mode... the bullet-list "arrows" icons for up/down/in/out list item manipulation is a little bit confusion. especially the "left" / "right" arrows for moving the list items into sub level and back into upper level. maybe they should be inverted in rtl mode ? maybe we should have a more natural icons that express more accurately the nature of the sub-level / up-level functions of a list's item ?
@nadavkav: Can you describe with are these buttons ? I'm not sure what are you talking about (I'm trying to confirm the bug).
Created attachment 53323 [details] screen capture of the bullet list issue
The word "Impress" was missing from the report... Anyway, confirmed on 2.4.0 with Debian unstable.
This bug is still present in version 3.2.1 (OOO320m19). Could you please set a target for it ?
I can confirm the response, but it isn't a bug. Personally I would vote for a different icon as I would find it VERY confusing if the same icon promoted or demoted an entry depending if it were ltr or rtf. The arrows are good in that they are similar to the up down, but if they change their meaning depending upon direction it would confuse me. A new set of icons which promote ALWAYS and demote ALWAYS would be better in my opinion. Ilan
I see two solutions, and I'm fine with both. 1. Have different icons for the RTL UI show the arrows will point to the right direction. 2. As we know we only need to switch between right/left arrows, we can work with the current images and just change which icon is loaded to with button for RTL UI. The second option is uglier but save the need to maintain two new images for the RTL UI.
I've notice that the arrow issue doesn't happen in writer (OOO320m19 (Build:9505) ooo-build 3.2.1.4, Debian package 1:3.2.1-7). Maybe we could just duplicate the solution done there.
