Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8873
Table in writer can't split cells at page break
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
When enterring a table consisting of several rows and columns, each cell containing multiple lines, cells are not 'spread' correctly over the pages. eg, entering a multi-line string in cell C3 that is larger than the remaining space on the page, the *entire* cell is transferred to the next page, instead of breaking at the page end. If that cell is filled with more text than can fit on one page, OpenOffice starts beeping, and fails to display the overflowing text. It doesn't crash, but the only way to continue working is to remove some of the text. Note that split table or textflow-settings do not affect this behaviour.
The current table concept does not allow a cell being split over several pages. This can not be "fixed". This is a well-known problem that we intend to solve by implementating an entire new table concept. I know that this is very annoying at the time because "long cells" are likely to appear (i.e. when opening MS Word documents or pasting large amounts of text into one cell. In order to modify the table (i.e. by splitting cellls manually) to meet this "limitation", switch the view to "online layout". Without page breaks being shown, no text will be hidden and no beep will be heard. I changed the Summary to meet the facts SBA->AMA: "... Implement a new table concept..." => Duplicate of... (sorry, I don't know the ID)
AMA: Our new table concept is planned for the OOo 2.0

Does look like a dupe, doesn't it? *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 2109 ***
SBA: The table cell break feature (see issue 2109, target OOo 2.0) was integrated in OOo master build 680m21. Closed.
