Subject line says it all: additionally there's no option via a right
click in the "Open" (file) dialog to select something like "show
hidden files".

And yes: I searched the local openoffice help files for some setting
that could change that behavior ...

Well, the issue 26365 was closed as WONTFIX - it also requested to show hidden
files. Searching IZ for "hidden files" gives some more issues ... The bottom
line is: Indeed it currently works as designed (hidden files are not shown), and
both behaviours (show / don't show) have good arguments on their side, for some
use cases.

I'd suggest introducing an additional button in the file picker, "Show Hidden
Files", or something like this. But I leave this up for the user experience team.

(And no, the internal file picker is not necessarily mine anymore. PB might be a
more appropriate owner nowadays - I gave back to him what I once inherited :)
