Description lohmaier 2008-03-31 12:47:29 UTC
This is a regression compared to OOo 2.3.1 (thus P2)

OOo 2.4.0 chooses a wrong font, one that is listed in the Font-Dropdown with a
different name that is based on the selected font, whereas OOo 2.3.1 did choose
the font that was selected.

Images/Samples say more than thousand words, so please see the attached PDFs.
In both cases, the font "Arial" was selected via the font-dropdown, then the
text was typed. No changes on the system were done except installing the new
version of OOo. the pspfontcache was deleted prior to starting the office (those
will be attached as well, along with a font to reproduce)

2.3.1 actually uses Arial, both on display and in the export to PDF, 2.4.1
however uses the mod "MetallicA NEW". And as that font only has changed versions
of a few glyphs, the effect is obvious.

Comment 6 hdu@apache.org 2008-03-31 13:06:30 UTC
@cloph: can you also attach the original document (an *.odt file probably)?
Comment 7 hdu@apache.org 2008-03-31 13:08:40 UTC
@cloph: also the result of the command "fc-match Arial" would be interesting
Comment 8 lohmaier 2008-03-31 13:11:44 UTC
$ fc-match Arial
ARIAL.TTF: "Arial" "Regular"
$

odt to follow, but nothing special about it, just regular text

Comment 10 hdu@apache.org 2008-04-02 15:30:15 UTC
I haven't been able to reproduce it. Neither by loading the bugdoc nor by typing it manually. Does it
happen when you load the bugdoc or only when typing? What kind of Linux are you on?

@es: Can you reproduce it?
Comment 11 lohmaier 2008-04-02 18:02:03 UTC
It doesn't matter whether you type it or not, sorry if tha was misleading.

The problem occurs always, when opening an existing doc and when creating a new
document.

But it only happens when the "METNEW.TTF" is installed. If I remove it from
~/.fonts OOo correctly uses Arial, if I put it back, the problem reoccurs.

Already the preview in the Font-Dropdown is affected, not only the text in the
document itself. And having a closer look at the list, I notice that the
Metallica New font is not listed (as opposed to OOo 2.3.1 where it was
available) (and no, font-replacement is not activated in the options)

Not sure what you mean with "type of linux" - I'm runnning gnome on a system
that was once a Mandrake 9.0 installation, now running kernel 2.6.24.3

Reproducible with that particular font METNEW.TTF.

METNEW.TTF installed: Selection of Arial results into font face of METNEW.TTF.
See also that the font face of Arial has changed to the one of METNEW.TTF in the
font preview of the font selection combo box.

Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
