Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8531
Numbered List/Outline commands should be in menu
Last modified: 2004-02-08 11:23:10 UTC
Incomplete menu support for OOo's outlining commands makes it impossible for a new user to browse the menus to learn about the commands and for experienced users to browse them for keyboard equivalents of the commands. Specifically, these two commands do not have keyboard equivalents listed in the menus: "Numbering On" (F12) "Numbering Off" (shift-F12) And these commands are not listed in the menus at all: "Move topic up one level" (Tab) "Move topic down one level" (Shift-Tab) "Insert a Tab Stop after the Heading" These problems can be solved by creating an "Outline" sub-menu in the Tools menu with all the outlining commands and their keystroke equivalents in it. Using the present set of commands, the sub-menu would contain: Outlining On / F12 Outlining Off / Shift-F12 Move Heading Up One Level / Tab Move Heading Down One Level / Shift-Tab Insert Tab Stop after Heading The following menu would be a bit more understandable and easier to work with, though: Start New Outline End Outline Restart Outline Promote Heading / Tab Demote Heading / Shift-Tab Insert Tab After Heading
Reassigned to Bettina.
I think this must be studied by user experience team
Please try using the latest OpenOffice 1.1 Final , you can download it from www.openoffice.org many bug fixes and enhancements since your version and 1.1 Final . If the problem still happend in 1.1 please report back It maybe not yet solve your Issue, but it worth to try.
This Issue seems not to differ between outline numbering and numbered lists. For both, OOo 1.1.0 provides GUI for simple modifying actions like "Move up with/without subsections" etc.: For numbered lists, there's a submenue which automatically opens when a numbered list is started. For outline numberings, use the Navigator (F5). Will close as fixed with OOo 1.1.0. Please reopen if I had misunderstood your request.
