Herbert,
I know that you are very experienced with Linux (and font problems). I
have never seen this problem but maybe you have an idea?
Comment 7 hdu@apache.org 2002-10-17 14:32:05 UTC
HDU->PL: looks like no fonts where found anywhere

HDU->karelbarel:
does it woek better when you copy a few truetype fonts into
  $OOHOME/share/fonts/truetype?
What is the font path on this system? "xset q" should tell it.

Comment 8 Unknown 2002-10-17 15:31:45 UTC
I am experiancing the same problem, Just built from scratch
and my xset q reports the following for fonts:
Font Path:

/usr/kde/3/share/fonts/override,/home/bartof/.kde3/share/fonts/override,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/cyrillic,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi,/home/bartof/.kde3/share/fonts,/usr/kde/3/share/fonts

Font cache:
  hi-mark (KB): 1024 low-mark (KB): 768 balance (%): 70

Comment 9 hdu@apache.org 2002-10-17 16:19:53 UTC
HDU->PL: can you help to tell which fonts where found if any?
Comment 10 philipp.lohmann 2002-10-17 17:27:19 UTC
pl->hdu: update psprint/inc/psprint/fontmanager.hxx and
psprint/source/fontmanager/fontmanager.cxx in psprint to toplevel and
compile with debug; every font file found by psprint will be output.

Of course that does not explain why not even an X font was used
Comment 11 Unknown 2002-10-17 17:29:51 UTC
xset output
/opt/kde2/share/fonts/override,/home/yeti/.kde2/share/fonts/override,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/local,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/URW,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID,/home/yeti/.kde2/share/fonts,/opt/kde2/share/fonts

ls -R of /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts I added to attachment

I've installed freetype2-2.0.4-52, freetype-1.3.1-314,
ttmkfdir-noversion-232, intlfonts-ttf-1.2-127 and (fonts from)
xf86-4.1.0-63.

copy a few truetype fonts... - not solving

I try install version 643, no problem!
Comment 17 Unknown 2002-10-21 18:59:47 UTC
I just tried running Openoffice on a remote system using X forwarding,
The same issue existed, even though it worked fine on the same machine
locally.

It appears to be an issue with KDE 3 compiled under GCC 3.2
I can gather more information about both systems if so desired.
Comment 18 hdu@apache.org 2002-10-30 13:58:48 UTC
OOo tries to open "Andale Sans UI" font and falls back to other
fonts when it doesn't find it. It looks like a fallback font
like Helvetica is advertized by the X server but the font cannot
be opened or displayed in the requested pixel size.

On OOo643 the font fallback mechanism was changed so this explains
why it works now locally.

Comment 19 hdu@apache.org 2003-01-23 16:50:28 UTC
Needs to be recreated...

Screen Shot of Fonts after install on RH 8.0
Comment 21 cslibby 2003-01-29 23:03:31 UTC
Fonts on installation and application menus are hard to read. This
problem exists in Gnome and KDE 3 from a standard RH 8.0 Install. I
wanted to upgrade to 1.0.2 because I had seen how great it worked at
home on a Win Machine, and wanted to have it on my RH machine.
Installation instructions do not help work around this issue if the
font server is part of the problem. I have had the same problem since
Star Office 5.2, Open Office 1.0, 1.0.1, and 1.0.2. Fonts inside the
documents work, basicly.
Comment 22 dankegel 2003-05-19 06:49:59 UTC
cslibby, you're describing a different problem, I think.
I'm seeing that, too, so I've opened up a separate issue
for it, issue 14604.
Comment 23 hdu@apache.org 2003-08-14 12:13:44 UTC
It seems the original problem here has been solved
especially by issue 15363, issue 12705 and issue 14054.
Closing.
Comment 24 hdu@apache.org 2003-08-15 09:19:29 UTC
HDU->US: please verify and close.
Comment 25 ulf.stroehler 2003-08-22 16:43:50 UTC
us->karelbarel: reminds me on issue 15743.
Could you pls. verify and comment on a OOo 1.1 RC3 or newer. Thx.
Comment 26 ulf.stroehler 2003-08-26 11:06:05 UTC
issue should be fixed.

Submitter pls. verify in a current OOo release.
Setting to WFM.
Comment 27 Unknown 2003-09-06 10:42:11 UTC
Sorry, I can't because at this time I'm running on SuSE 8.2 (included OO 1.0.2 working
fine).
