Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83943
saving files
Last modified: 2008-01-19 19:44:20 UTC
I have a problem with saving my OOO files. When I finish working on a file a save it, the icon for the file will not show as usual OOO logo, when I want to open later this file, my PC doesn't know what Program shoud be used for this file. I have the same problem also if I convert the file in PDF by clicking on the button up the the toolbar. The file woun't show as PDF, but an "unknown". If anyone has an idea what can I do to fix this please mail me to freeelifestyle@yahoo.co.nz Thanks
@freeelifestyle: Your report is too vague, for example "when I want to open later this file ... " does not contain any information HOW you try; from WIN EXPLORER? OOo File menu? OOo or WIN dialogue? Is this a new problem? Do you have any experience with OOo? So please first read our guidelines on <http://qa.openoffice.org/issue_handling/pre_submission.html> and <http://www.openoffice.org/bugs/bug_writing_guidelines.html>, then contribute a clear step by step instruction containing all observations (error messages ...), every key press and every mouse click how to reproduce the problem. Please attach one such "OOo" file your computer does not recognize. I am pretty sure that something is wrong with you OS settings, may be you should run setup.exe (in folder "installation files" in the 'repaif mode'.
ab->hro: Besides the vague description this issue is completely wrong for me as it seems to refer to system integration. I don't know why it has been send to me.
I think that we can close this issue unless we have further information.
Closing issue due to reporter's inactivity as WFM.
I am having this same problem. When I choose File > Save (or Save As ...) from the menu and save the document from Writer, it saves as a generic file. It does this regardless of the file type I choose (I usually use .odt or .doc). When I find the file in WIN EXPLORER, the icon doesn't show up as the OOo icon, and there is no file extension. If I then try to open the file (from WIN EXPLORER, OOo File menu, or from OOo or WIN dialog), WIN EXPLORER opens a dialog box asking me to choose the program I want to use to open the file. It has been doing this since Nov. 2007, about 1 month after I downloaded OOo. Previously, the problem didn't exist.
