Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83654
autorecovery default OFF???
Last modified: 2013-02-07 21:55:12 UTC
Hi, Yesterday I had a problem where OOo froze, I had to kill it and lost my work done on the document (this issue is *not* about the freezing, if I find a way how to reproduce it I will file a separate issue) Anyway, then I discovered that both at my work and at home, the option to regularly save autorecovery information was set to OFF. I am sure I would not have made this setting myself. Please check if the default setting of this option is OFF; it should definitely be ON (otherwise users will at least lose valuable work once before finding out about this setting, if at all). Another thing: even though this setting is off, I have occasionally seen the recovery dialog pop up on starting, when I had previously improperly shut down OOo (without losing valuable work though). I suspect that a recovery file is saved when opening an existing document or starting a blank one, even if the autorecovery option is off. This does not make any sense because all that is recovered is the existing document (which is, in that form, still on the disk anyway) or a blank document. Also seeing this dialog gives the false impression that the autorecovery option is on when in fact it isn't. If this is the case, please correct it.
