Up to version 2.2, putting the following into
share/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Common.xcu
worked:

  <node oor:name="ExternalMailer">
    <prop oor:name="Program" oor:type="xs:string">
      <value>/usr/bin/thunderbird</value>
    </prop>
  </node>

Since 2.3, it doesn't work anymore. I also tried putting the setting into an
.uno.pkg, but it has no effect, either. OOo always uses kmail. The only thing
that works is to put the setting into user/.../Common.xcu, but I need a
system-wide solution. AFAICS, there is no way to override OOo's standard mailer
on a system wide level in a KDE environment anymore.

Confirm with OOo 2.3.1 Pro on Ubuntu 7.10 64-bit
