Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83320
Restarting page numbering inserts blank pages
Last modified: 2007-11-08 09:29:18 UTC
Suppose you wantto write a Writer document with two paragraphs. The first paragraph should appear on the first page and the second paragraph on the second page. Furthermore, the first page should have no page number, while the second (and following pages) should start with page number 1. The documented way to do that is to modify the paragraph properties of the seconf paragraph: In the Text Flow tab: Breaks, Insert type: Page, position: before, with page style: default, page number:1 This puts the second paragraph on the next page and makes the numbering on the second page start at 1. However, in Page Preview and when printed on paper (or PDF), an extra blank page is inserted between the first and the second page. If the page number field in the Paragraph properties is not changed (value 0), then no blank page is inserted (but the second page then has number 2)

the first page also has number one... so there must be a left page between those two right pages. See Print option "print automatically inserted blank pages", implemented by issue 3910. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 3910 ***

I don't understand something : the NUMBERING issue is not solved if I've correctly read the whole issue 3910. Even if we can avoid the printing of the blank page, the numbering is still wrong, the blank pages are taken into account in the page count. Is there another issue for that ?
This is not a "problem" - Writer is to be designed to behave like this. A right page (always odd page number) is followed by a left page (always even page number). This is called "Book layout". However, a possible change of this behavior is also handled in issue 12138.
