Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 82401
Change default distance to text in numbering styles
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
Hi * (couldn't find an issue on number(ing) (list/style) space/distance, so hope I didn't miss an existing one ;-) ) When a list with numbering style 1 passes 9, the user has to change the style and set the Minimun space number <-> text (tab Position). This could be avoided if the minimum distance is set. 0.10 or 0.15 looks reasonable.
MRU->FL: it be reasonable to set the "spacing to text" to 0,64cm (like in a default list) for some list styles like "Numbering 1" and "Numbering 5". "Numbering 4" with its Roman numbers should have something like 1,00 or 1,28 cm.
Thanks for picking this up. I was making a little document to look at a nice distance, and found out that my summary of the issue isn't clear. I'll attach an odt, showing the vertical alignment that IMO is the goal of this issue. Therefore two properties have to be set: - minimum space numbering <> text - spacing to text Figures in the document.

Changed issue's summary (Was: Set default min. 'space number <-> text' for numbering styles)
set dev notes
Set target to 3.x.
I will attach an image of a professionally formatted list. Please note the right alignment of the numbers - yet there is still some space to the text. When right-aligning in OOo, the distance to the text virtually disappears. I used a larger font in OOo to illustrate some further glitches (the text is actually not left-aligned): the numbers are actually not perfectly right-aligned. Especially, when setting the minimum space text distance, the "right-aligned" list looses its right alignment (see 2nd image) and text is visibly mal-aligned.

Created attachment 52699 [details] Setting the Minimum Distance to Text breaks the Right-Alignment completely in OOo.
OOo 3.0 will implement new positioning behavior. We have to check this first. http://specs.openoffice.org/writer/numbering/NewListLevelAttrs.odt
