Description mrechte 2007-10-01 14:12:23 UTC
Hello,

Since I upgraded from OO2.1 (or 2.2: can't remember the exact version) to 2.3
(Win XP) It has become incredibly slow, especially when having embedded Calc
sheets in Writer docs, trying to edit the calc elements takes a while to open
(CPU is 100% occupied for may be 30 seconds). Also when printing it takes a lot
of resources.

The issue makes OO unusable now.

I was having no such problem before upgrade.

Thanks

Please attach a sample document
Comment 2 mrechte 2007-10-01 18:13:53 UTC
I tried to create a document about the same size, but I cannot reproduce the
problem. However I have at least 2 documents which are producing this problem
which have been created with an older version of OO. So it could be happening
only with old documents ODT files. I cannot attach any of these faulty documents
because of their sensitive content. Should I manage to find a suitable one, I
will attach it to this ticket. Thanks.

MRU->ES: to me, this sounds like the same problem described in issue 80153.
Comment 4 mrechte 2007-10-08 16:36:01 UTC
No I don't think it is related to this other issue. Please have a look on
further details I gave on http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?t=63446

@AMA: Confirm the performance difference between 2.2.1 and 2.3.
In 2.3 -> 100% CPU usage on editing an OLE object
Editing takes about 10 sec (very slow)

(Confidential bugdoc sent to you via e-mail).
Comment 7 mikhail.voytenko 2007-10-11 11:15:20 UTC
The reason for the problem is the issue 81789 that will be fixed for OOo2.3.1.

But it looks like the document was stored using the affected office, still have
a performance problem on first activation. So this task is not a complete
duplicate to issue 81789, it is about handling of the affected embedded documents.

Reassigned.
Comment 9 Mathias_Bauer 2007-10-19 14:42:04 UTC
So even in 2.3.1 we will have the problem that in case an OLE object was created
with 2.3 activating it can take a little bit more time if printer access is slow.

As a workaround for this case in 2.3.1: please try to switch off "load printer
settings with the document" in "Tools-Options-Load/Save-General"
Comment 10 mikhail.voytenko 2008-01-03 16:35:43 UTC
The only way I see to avoid the problem by already affected by OOo2.3 embedded
documents, is to disable the possibility to set the printer property for
embedded documents.

Michael,
are we on track for 2.4 with this issue?
Our users are affected by this problem (in Russian - http://community.i-
rs.ru/index.php/topic,7152.msg45449/topicseen.html#msg45449).
Comment 12 mikhail.voytenko 2008-01-11 09:21:29 UTC
The problem with automatic creation of the printer for embedded documents is
fixed for OOo2.3.1, issue 81789.

This bug is now only about the documents that was generated by OOo2.3 before the
issue 81789 was fixed, the documents that contain an own filter for each
embedded object. So I change the summary accordingly.

The mentioned above link points to the discussion containing a bugdoc. On my
machine the bugdoc seems to trigger problem only in case automatic
spell-checking is on. There is a new bug 85135 regarding the problem.

Fixed.
