Description schaber 2007-09-27 11:41:12 UTC
In a StarOffice 8 PP8 Writer (.odt) document, I selected text in a table cell,
copied the text (Ctrl+C) and pasted it below (Ctrl+V). After a few seconds it
crashed the whole application. Document recovery caused in a cycle of crashes.
When I try to open the file, I get the recovery dialog. If I accept the
recovery, then it reports successful recovery and crashes again when I click
Next. When I cancel the recovery, it crashes anyway. So there is no chance to
open the file with StarOffice 8 PP8 anymore. I tried everything.

However, when I open the same file in OpenOffice 2.0, it works fine.

I attached the crash files here, since I cannot use the built-in crash report in
StarOffice, because it crashes even before I have the chance to send the report.
I assume this is a general problem in OpenOffice, and not only of StarOffice.

I did a few more tests. With OO 2.2.0 I can open the file, with OO 2.3.0 I cannot.

Pleas attach the document leading to the crash.
Comment 4 schaber 2007-09-28 11:39:32 UTC
I cannot send the corrupted original file. It holds sensitive information.
However, I was able to reproduce the problem almost completely.

Open the attached document
Click into cell named "Move caret here and split table (copy header)"
Split the table (copy headers)

The application crashes instantly. However, when recovering the file it does not
corrupt the file, but only remove the table break. Maybe it has something to do
with what I did in the original file differently. I think I split the table, did
an undo, and finally pasted some text into the same cell, but this is not
possible now.

@AMA: Confirmed on Linux too.
Comment 7 eric.savary 2007-09-28 12:10:11 UTC
Crash report rw685n (Linux) and r6b85n (Windows).
Comment 8 andreas.martens 2007-10-02 11:43:13 UTC
I was able to reproduce the problem and changed the description accordingly.
Comment 9 schaber 2007-10-07 11:25:28 UTC
Note that splitting a table is not the only problem. Under certain circumstances
(undo, redo?) it is possible to paste text in the same cell and then after
recovering the document from the crash, the file gets corrupted (at least for OO
2.3). I just was not able to reproduce this. However, I was able to open the
corrupted file with OO 2.2.
