Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8130
running spell check crashes OO
Last modified: 2003-09-08 16:56:16 UTC
After spending some amount of time working within the OO wordprocessor, OO will completely crash when running Spell Check. If I open a console and kill any lingering OO processes, then restart OO, reload the document, and run spell check, it works fine. Note that after working within the word processor for any length of time, running Spell Check *will* crash Open Office; if it does not crash it immediately it will freeze up OO while performing the spell check. Mandrake Linux 8.2, stock install.
Hi, This is a known problem in OOo 1.0.o that was already fixed in OOo 1.0.1. Please upgrade. Kevin
Hi, Please test only with OOo 1.0.1 since the bug was fixed in that release. Also, have you installed any additional dictioanries for any language. If so, bad .aff files and or bad .dic files can cause OOo to segfault. I try to test all of the dictionaries users contribute but some slip through the cracks. If so, please revert to just the intially installed en_US for further testing. Two more things to check: 1. spell checking is memory intensive, have you run a good memory diagnostic tool to make sure none of your ram chips has developed a problem (everyone always says they are fine (even me!) but once I really ran a good memory test and found I had a bad ram chip which I removed and now all if rock stable) 2. Did you try to install OOo 1.0.1 over the top of OOo 1.0 without completely removing OOo first? if so, that will cause problems since the file format for some of the writing aids changed if any files from OOo 1.0.0 are found by 1.0.1 theymay cause problems. Also, you must actually sue Issuezilla for you replies to be seen by me and recorded. Thanks, Kevin
gmsilver, I'm closing this issue for now. If you still experience problems, feel free to reopen this issue.
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
