Description mlaakso 2007-08-19 16:35:18 UTC
While changing an absolute reference by dragging the link with mouse, Openoffice
adds some additional (area) reference to formula. This redundant reference
breaks the formula if the cell is copied.

For example if you have a following formula in B4 [=$B$1*A4] and you want to
change the absolute reference from $B$1 to $B$2, the formula is changed to
[=$B$2:B2*A4]. If you copy this formula from B4 to B5 - B10 there will be an
error because of this additional reference openoffice added to absolute refence
when it was changed.

@mlaakso:
Please contribute a step by step instruction containing every key press and
every mouse click how to reproduce the problem. I can't understand how you "...
change the absolute reference from $B$1 to $B$2 ..."

If I understand all that correctly, this issue is a DUP of Issue 73766

It's very simple, you take a mouse and drag the absolute reference link
(='area') from cell $B$1 to $B$2 for example. This changes the reference from
$B$1 to $B$2:B2. The formula still works in original cell, but guess what
happens when you copy the original cell to multiple rows? Everything gets
screwed up. This is something that I'd believe every spreadsheet user will bump
into regularly.

But yes, this issue is duplicate of 73766. Sorry about that.

It's a shame that updates break some basic functionality of the program and it
doesn't get fixed in next release or future releases either. If I remember right
this defect has existed from 2.2 and still seems to be dragged along in 2.3...
More frustrated users in our 20 user organization.

The biggest frustration in OOo is still the performance, specially in
sreadsheet. Very simple spreadsheet file can freeze the application for tens of
seconds in brand new workstations...
