Description cjensen 2002-10-04 03:09:58 UTC
I've found this problem on both Windows 2000 with ooo 1.0.1 and on linux with
ooo 1.0.0.
When opening word files that Open Office doesn't like, it simply does nothing.
It doesn't give an error message. If I already have a document open it simply
returns to that document.
On Windows 2000 this occured with what appeared to be a Word for Windows 2.0
document. Under linux, I am not sure what the document was created in, but it
opened correctly in Word 97.
It would be much friendlier to display an error message - especially if no other
office documents are open, as it appears to the user that office is broken and
not running.I discovered the format of the Word for Windows 2.0 document when
trying to open it in Wordpad which gave an error saying that it did not support
Word for Windows 2.0 documents. It would be nice if Open Office could give a
similar error message informing of the file format (when possible) so that we
would have an idea of how we could open the document.

Set to "NEW"
Comment 3 falko.tesch 2003-10-15 09:39:53 UTC
Throw an error message in case of a invalid file when opened instead
of silently dropping and doing nothing.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on
my owner to the owner "requirements".
