The graphics from an imported .doc file are flickering as they are displayed in
Writer.  Eventually, the flickering stops and the graphics are not displayed at all.

Hm, I had a look at this and I think, you should attach the original Word
document to this issue, so that we could compare this with that. 
When I copy the graphic into MS Word, it shows the same flickering problem. So
there are two possibilities:
1) the graphic already showed the problem in MS Word - so it would be no issue
in OOo, or
2) the graphic became scrambled during import, so it would be a bug in OOo and
we need the original doc to debug it.

MRU->SJ: see the attachment 79410 [details]a.doc - there is a graphic which will not be
imported properly. there's a "square" part which is not transparent and won't
let the map part shine through. This will lead to a flickering effect when
scrolling.
