Description Unknown 2002-09-26 18:12:16 UTC
My Mac is being repaired so I had to edit some of my documents using my pc /
linux. I have OpenOffice1.0 but in Write there seems to lack completely the
possibility to open or edit (and save) the Appleworks format files. (.cwk).

As a preferrably Macintosh user, I think this is something that the next
versions should have. Or I have to start to save my documents as well in .rtf
format.

I would really enjoy the possibility to open .cwk documents with OpenOffice.

Thank you.

maybe need to consider if there is enough demand

The simple answer is to just use OpenOffice on both the Mac and PC. However,
having switched over to Mac OpenOffice, I would _really_ like to be able to
open my legacy documents. Since there are hundreds of them, and I need
occasional access, I am not going to convert them all to .rtf. Having an
OpenOffice converter from Appleworks document, spreadsheet, draw, and paint
documents (in that order of priority) would be very useful.

I would love to help with such a project, but haven't a clue as to AppleWorks
storage format.

Say it isn't so! Open Office doesn't support Appleworks legacy documents?

I am a professional freelance writer and editor with thousands of legacy documents in Appleworks which I
am attempting to port to new imac running Mac OS X. I am in dire need of a word processor that can read
my legacy documents. My daughter pointed me to OpenOffice telling me, "It can open anything. I'm sure it
can read your files."

While Appleworks is not a large user base, it seems to me, my daughter's statement, "It can read anything"
would be a powerful marketing tool and cementing a reputation as the 'can do' office suite.

I am also a professional with a lot of Appleworks documents (text with spreedsheet).
Now, I want to use openOffice for his great opendocument format.
But i cannot import these composite documents, it should be very powerfull if it
can do that because there is not any commercial tools enable to.
Thanks you.

To grep the issues easier via "requirements" I put the issues currently lying on

I, too, have hundreds of AppleWorks 6 drawing documents that I need to open in Windows 7 and hoped OO would be the answer. Any chance of that coming to pass?

Ok, this bug is older, but in fact it's the same as Bug 64912
