Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 78780
occasional slow redraw on all components, combined with instability
Last modified: 2009-08-02 14:09:41 UTC
I'm running OOo 2.2 on RHEL 4 U5 on an x86_64 machine. Java is totally disabled. This version (unlike previous versions) seems to be unstable in the following way. Periodically, especially when editing larger documents, the screen refresh becomes extremely slow. In a spreadsheet, only about 20 cells per second are redrawn. The menus and toolbars likewise are extremely slow to redraw. Note that this is not limited to the calc application, but applies to all applications. If I have a writer document open as well, it is slow to redraw as well. Some of the time, once this behavior starts to occur, the application crashes or freezes. The rest of the time, I successfully save my open documents and close OOo successfully in order to restart it. I will attempt to find a way to consistently replicate this bug if I can, and will update this issue with anything I figure out.

OK, per a discussion on issue 8601, this is NOT the same issue. I'm re-opening it. Also, a new data point. I just had this phenomenon occur again, with a relatively small spreadsheet and a fairly large drawing, each of which had been open for several days. I was able to save my work, close, and re-open.
.
harlan879 : do you still experience this issue using current version (OOo 3.0) ? I use OOo 2.4.2 and OOo 3.0 under Ubuntu and I never experienced such problem.
No, I haven't had this problem recently. I'm now using 3.0 on RHEL. I haven't been using as many large spreadsheets recently, though, so it's possible I just haven't triggered it. I'd suggest keeping this issue open at a very low-priority for a while longer. If I see the issue again, I'll post here.
is anybody able to reproduce, if so, feel free to reopen this issue.
