Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 7764
Auto cell-break in multi-page tables.
Last modified: 2004-08-29 00:53:39 UTC
When i work with really large tables, i'd like to have auto cell--page-break in the fashion it is done in MS-Word. Otherwise -- the number of pages in MS-WORD and OO slightly differs.
Reassigned to Bettina.
I think, compatibility to MSWORD is an argument, but might be the next one wants it for WP and so on and so on and so on. Are there more arguments to create auto cell--page-break in the fashion it is done in MS-Word? Rainer

RFE for Q
This is not really an issue of compatibility with MS Word. It is plainly a current limitation of OOo Writer. I do not see a good reason why a cell would not be allowed to split within one row over different pages. This feature would allow to use tables as a layout tool for what is called "parallell colun=mns" in Wordperfect. Currently, there is no elegant way of doing parallell columns in Writer. I'd rather clasify this issue as an "Enhancement" rather than as a "Feature".
Please set this issue for all operationg systems. It is a current design limitation of Writer. This issue remains applicable to versions 1.1. I also suggest to raise the priority. It is a mayor obstacle for people migrating from MS Word or having to exchange documents in Word format (like most of us still have to do). Moreover, implementing this enhancement would allow tables to be used as a layout tool, for example in creating "parallel columns" (for example, a script with dialogs in the left column and instructions on the right side), something that currently cannot be done in a decent way in Writer. If it is being fixed in OOo 2.0, then please indicate so, and close this issue. Thumbs up, then.
