Description cbelch 2002-09-10 15:57:14 UTC
We have many MS Word 2000 documents that make the use of 'combo box' form
fields. My problem is that when I open the documents in Open Office the combo
boxes do not appear at all. Text fields and check boxes seem fine!

Also, I have tried creating combo boxes from scratch in Open Office and it
seems to want to link to a data source. In MS Word you can just type your
options in!

I have attached an example!

Thanks,
Cheryl ;o)

MS Word doc with various form fields!
Comment 2 Unknown 2002-09-12 01:20:29 UTC
By using the attached file, I reproduce the bug on Windows Me / OO
1.0.1. and Windows2000/OO 1.0.1. Actually, I find out that it’s
the “drop down form fields” disappear, not the “combo boxes”.

I tried another test case.
Reduplication Steps:
1. Create a new word document with “Text form field”, “Check box
form field”, “Drop down form field”, and “Combo box”.
2. Save it in Word 2000, and close it.
3. Reopen it in OO 1.0.1. “Drop down form field” disappears, and
others remain the same.

I will attach my test file.

Cheryl and Jiehua, thanks for your comments and attachments.

The issue at hand is whether OOo supports the MS Word form
control "FORMDROPDOWN".

I'm going to check up to see if OOo supports this Word form feature.

Considering the attached file does not work, I'd say OOo doesn't.

See issue 5260 for OOo support of drop down boxes.

In short, OOo currently does not support importing or exporting the
form drop down box.

As mentioned in 5260, you can change this to an enhancement request
which I can help escalate.

Hi,
As suggested I am changing this issue to Issue type "Enhancement" as
I would really like to be able to open word docs with drop down boxes
in open office!
Thanks,
Cheryl ;o)

I have successfully replicated this report using the file attached.
I save the file, and opened it with MS Word, the combo box is there.
When I opened the file with Ooo Writer, the box disappears.

Reassigned to Michael.

Yes, this would mean an enhancement, because Writer does not have a
correspondant feature, which could depict the DropDownBox or Combobox
from Word
(though Writer also has a kind of ComboBox, but it works much
differently).
If we want to have an import of these Controls/Forms, a correspondant
has to be imülemented
A decision by the product management has to be done...

Thank you for this issue. I had to change the prio accordingly , as
prio 1 only makes sense in cases as e.g. crashes, freezes, data lossor
makes it impossible to create documents.

Oliver, you are collecting all field enhancements. Here's another one.
Comment 14 Oliver Specht 2004-01-12 12:27:58 UTC
This feature is already implemented in OOo 1.1
