Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 7533
WW8: Allow fields inside hyperlinks
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:23 UTC
When I try to open a WOrd '97 file that contains pictures that are hyperlinked to the Web, WP crashes with 'fatal error' dialog. I changed file to embedded pictures (in Word 2000) and file loaded fine.
Thanks for posting Ed. Just a heads up, OOo 1.0.1 has been released. Could you please attach all the files we need to reproduce this issue? Thanks.
Hi, Ed am implanting the messages your sent to the mailing list by mistake. : Hi, I D/l'd ver 1.01 as you suggested. The good news is that the file no longer crashes, but the formatting is rather badly 'screwed-up' and the hyperlink address shows, whereas in Word '97, 2000 & XP the picture acts as the link. I have attached the file as requested. It is one of my daughter's grade 7 school assignments and is pure 'fiction'!! She told me to say that!!! regards Ed Baxter Senior Consultant, ebax consulting services
Created attachment 2832 [details] word.doc that exhibits reported issues
Ed, I'm glad your comments made it back to this issue. Thanks Louis and Diane for your help. Ed, I opened up the attached document in Word 2000, and I see the link in text. The documents look fairly similiar to me. Could you please point out exactly the parts of the document that OOo is importing incorrectly?
Created attachment 2883 [details] OO screenshot with the edited doc I sent before
Created attachment 2884 [details] WORD XP screen shot with edited doc
Created attachment 2885 [details] OO screenshot full (original) doc
I have attached 4 screenshots and the 'original' file. For some reason (probably best known by Microsoft, the 'original' file that my daughter created which has hyper-links to the NASA web site, is 3.4mb long. I reduced the size to send to you by deleting the 2nd page in OO and zipped that. I didn't open it again in WORD but I now note that the editing in OO has 'added' the hyperlink text, which as you can see in the original FULL doc does not exhibit that in WORD but does in OO. Also in WORD, the picture acts as a hyperlink 'button'. You can see that the page fonts and layout are quite a bit different on both the FULL doc and the 'edited' one. I used exactly the same files for each of these 2 sets of screenshot. At the monment I don't seem to be able to add the other attachments, but I will as soon as I am able.
Created attachment 2887 [details] WORD XP screenshot of the ORIGINAL document
Created attachment 2889 [details] The ORIGINAL WORD 2000 doc screenshot
Created attachment 2890 [details] The ORIGINAL WORD 2000 .doc (zipped)
I just uploaded the original WORD 2000 doc and also a screenshot from the WORD2000/win98SE pc that the file was originally created on by my daughter for a school project. All the other screenshots, conversions/zipping etc were done on my Pent VI 'XP HOME' pc running WORD XP and OO 1.0.1. I have to apologise as I named the full doc jpgs the wrong way around. This is pretty obvious from the window title bars!! I use ANALOGX's great little util CAPTURE (www.analogx.com) but it saves with a timestanmp and BMP format so I had to rename and also convert to JPG.
Thanks Ed for the original document and the screenshots. The pictures in this document are loaded dynamically when the document is opened. The issue at hand it whether OOo supports the MS field code HYPERLINK Ed as a workaround, I'd download the images and just add them to the document.
Summing it up it seems to be only "strange formatting" left in this issue. To all who intend to _contribute_ to oo.org: Please don't let issues "mutate". In this case, the issue should have been closed as soon as a newer version didn't show the crash anymore. The formatting thingie is something totally different, doesn't match the summary/issue title and should have gotten an issue of its own with a - guess... - a summary that meets the findings. IT COMPLICATES THINGS if you use an issue as a "private newsgroup", mutating a problem to another one. This is counter-productive in total. Thank you for your comprehension. I changed the title. Old title: "Crash when loading Word'97 with hyperlinks to Web" Reassigned to Michael.
Hi All, I appreciate the comments about mutating. This is my first experience dealing with open source and I appreciate the fine work that is being done, but common courteousy would be appreciated and a little less bite to your comments. Especially if you expect input from 'ordinary' users. If you only want feedback from 'techie' types like yourself then restrict the access. Also I was responding to what I thought was a personal email initially. Maybe your system needs to be a bit more 'user-friendly' a comment that has been expressed about unix/linux 'types' many, many times before. It seems that it still continues to be the case in some people/systems!!! Unless I get some sort of apology for the very 'rude' tone of the last comment, I will no longer offer my active co-operation or participation. I, along with Diane have spent at least 8 hours trying to get this issue with all its attachment/problems attaching files etc resolved and I do not need the aggravation. Thanks!!!
MRU->CMC: First, take the latest upload (which is marked as "The ORIGINAL WORD 2000 .doc"). The import gives also three Asserts "Auswertung fehlt noch - Daten unbekannt" (for each graphic?). The content of the hyperlinks then is added to the bodytext, not as graphic property.
fields inside fields are a problem, because writer itself generally can't do them. Hyperlinks are an exception as they are not fields in writer, so we should technically be able to import this example. The code currently isn't set up to make an exception for hyperlinks so thats why there is trouble with this. Generally we *can* import and export hyperlinks, including the case of a hyperlinked graphic inserted with insert graphic and then a hyperlink added to that with the right click context menu. No quick fix for this, it'll take time to rework the fields in fields code to allow the includepicture field to work inside the hyperlink field.
There's an earlier report of this problem, so mark as duplicate. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 6290 ***

Working in SRX644h
Yeah, looks much better with internal 644L. Fix will be available with openOffice 644 build.
Fix will be included in OpenOffice 1.1 beta.
