Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 75009
Extensions:Install by doubleclick shows progress bar first before message box
Last modified: 2008-05-21 09:23:12 UTC
Doubleclick an extension e.g. in the Windows Explorer: First the progress bar is shown, before the message box appears asking, if you want to install it. The right order of actions is, to ask the user first, and, when he has confirmed the installation by clicking on the 'OK' button, to bring up the progress bar, which indicates the started action.
Target set.
.
Retargeted to 2.4
The user cannot understand what is happending, when the progress bar becomes visible first, before showing a message. Why was the target reset to 2.4? The time until 2.4 is too long, to keep that bug in the product. We should fix it earlier.

Retargeting to 3.0
jl->bh: I believe this issue is obsolete, because the progress bar is shown within the Extension Manager's dialog. Am I right?
We have to assure, that in the described case the progress bar in the upcoming Extension Manager starts not earlier, before the message box had appeared. So 1. the extension manager comes up, the progress bar within this dialog does not start 2. the message box appears. And if the user does not cancel the message, then 3. the progress bar starts running.
jl->bh: Ok, what about the case where the user add a URL in the file dialog. Then the Extension Manager starts downloading the extension which may take a LONG time. This is already indicated by the progressbar. Only when it is downloaded and unzipped can the EM find out if it needs to display the message box. I think that it is absolutely ok to show the progress bar. The problem we had with the dialogs before 3.0 was that there where three dialogs shown. Now there are only the EM dialog and the message box. Nowbody will complain about the progressbar. When the user cancels the installation than the progressbar is gone anyway. Or you need to have the progressbar exactly indicating what it is doing right now: downloading, extracting, ... So I still see this issue is obsolete unless you want the progress bar show those additional information.
Invalid because of new GUI.
