I work in multiple languages and found that although the inline spellchecker
does work with my selected language in Writer, it doesn't work in Calc. I've
tried checking the option from within Calc. It works for the session, but when I
reopen OpenOffice, the box is again unchecked.

can't repro with 2.1 on WinXP. Please specify where exactly you set this 
option.
