Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74168
EMF files in PPT file do not display
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:20:06 UTC
Opened a PPT file that was created with Microsoft Powerpoint, and the charts on several pages do not display at all (it's very obvious which ones). One of the charts displays incorrectly (it's fairly obvious). Asked the originator of the file, and he said "Ah, that'll be the EMFs. We do find some versions of Windows have trouble with EMFs created with the latest Windows. It's a pain, all I can think of is to send you a PDF" I don't know if it's really EMFs but I'm attaching the PPT file. I see similar issues raised in Writer and Draw since Oct 2006. My issue is not a copy/paste issue but opening a foreign file.
Created attachment 42720 [details] p22 is wrong; pp8, 9, 11 - 14, 20 chart completely missing in Impress
Further testing: I selected one of the missing charts (the one on p.20) in Impress and used Right-Click, Save Image, and Saved as WMF, and could see it in "Windows Fax/Image Viewer". Saved as EMF and could not see anything. Then I opened a new OOo Draw document and did Alt - Insert - Graphic - From File and inserted the WMF. A plain rectangle was all I could see. Same result if I inserted the EMF. History: First noticed this issue in OOo 2.0 in Oct 2006. Didn't have the problem file before that so don't know if it is same in earlier versions. Same behaviour in OOo 2.1. Sorry I can't give more technical information about the problem. I should have edited the file down to just one offending page, but I don't own a copy of the MS application.
Confirming with OO 2.1 and m5 (build 9114) - specified pages are missing pictures. Would be nice to have this targeted for 2.2.1.
Reassigned.
I can see the bug in the attached document but to reproduce the bug I need an unbroken document. Please attach an unbroken document.
Not quite sure what you need. I'm told that if opened in Microsoft's Powerpoint the document has no problems, and as the document was originated in Powerpoint the author is going to argue that this document is not broken, and he won't give me a new one. I did confirm that the graphic itself is fine actually - select the graphic in OOo and right click and choose "Save graphic" and save it as a WMF, then open Windows Explorer and choose to view it in "Windows Fax and Image Viewer" (i.e. double-click on it in Explorer) then you can see it in all its glory. (If you save it as EMF, that doesn't work, however). I only tried that with one of the images so far. Does that help any? Sorry
Please tell me which PPT-version do you use because I can see the bug in OOo and PPT.
cgu, PPT2003 displays the file just fine.
From the author of the PPT document: "Sorry to hear the charts are disappearing. We use Office XP Professional and PowerPoint 2003. However the problem might be that the charts are EMFs." and "The graphs were created in a separate graphing programme which sits on top of the database. This allows for highly accurate, flexible and automatic charting but does import well as EMFs, with bitmaps being a little distorted."
I can reproduce the bug. When you load it with PPT 2000 it is also broken in PPT but with PPT xp or PPT 2003 it works correct in PPT. Please have a look.
set target from 2.x to 3.x according to http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Target_3x
Hi - is this still on the list? Whenever I want to edit a presentation which contains these graphics, I go to Microsoft's software to do it with....
