Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74098
PDF commenting linked to password
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:29:24 UTC
Hello, all! PDF documents can be flagged such that Adobe Reader allows the user to comment them. Writer seems to allow this flagging in its PDF export options, but only when I assign a password. I would like to be able to assign the comment right without using a password. But maybe there is a rationale behind the way it is handled now? Kind regards, Axel Niedenhoff <><

Confirming behavior with OO 2.1 on WinXP. There is specification for PDF security http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=12626 ,but it does not specifically detail the reasons. Hopefully developers will step in and elaborate. anieden, can't you comment .pdf saved without password?
No, unfortunateley not. I will attach the resulting PDF where I have not set a password. When exporting, the corresponding radio button for commenting was enabled, but greyed out. When you now open the PDF and look at the security properties (I hope that that is the correct English equivalent for the German »Sicherheitseigenschaften«), you will see that it shows commenting as not allowed.
Created attachment 42659 [details] A PDF with no commenting allowed
