Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 73145
Calc notes change size when adding/deleting rows
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:14:39 UTC
CALC CELLS WITH DISPLAYED NOTES DO NOT ALWAYS RETAIN THEIR SIZE WHEN ADDITIONAL ROWS ARE ADDED THEN DELETED. Steps to reproduce: 1. Open a new Calc spreadsheet. 2. In cell B7 enter some text. 3. Insert a note to cell B7. 4. In cell B12 add some text. 5. In cell B12 insert a note. 6. Place cursor focus in cell A1. 7. Add 5 rows from cell A1. 6. Delete 5 rows from cell A1. 7. Notice the note boxes now have enlarged height.

Confirming with OO 2.1 on WinXP - note height grows with each row added. Repro steps 1. open blank spreadsheet and type some text in B7. 2. Click cell B7, Insert, Note and type one line of text. 3. R-click cell B7, click "Show Note". 4. Click A1 and Isert. Rows. 5. Observe how note height grows.
ADDITIONAL ODD BEHAVIOR: 1. Go to cell C10 (or any other cell for that matter.) 2. Insert "TEST" in the cell. 3. Insert note "TEST" in the cell. 4. Right click, SHOW NOTE. 5. Click cell A1 6. Insert two new columns. Note the TEST cell and its note grow in size and move two columns right. 7. Click the UNDO ICON on the tool bar (deleting the columns you just added). 8. Notice now that the NOTE no longer points to the associated cell.
Hi Daniel, a double to Issue 59745 ? I'm asking because Issue 67076 is the same as this one and points to it. Frank
I have reproduced this bug in OOo 2.1 on Windows XP SP1. The following steps can also cause the note associated with a cell to change size: 1. Add one line of text to cell D10 (or any other cell). 2. Insert note to D10, add one line of text to the note. 3. Right-click D10 and click "Show Note". 4. Cut cell D10 and paste it in cell D18 5. Right-click D18 and click "Show Note". 6. Observe that the note has resized.
The issue can be replicated in OO v2.1 running on Win XP SP1 and OO v2.0.2 running on Fedora 5 kernel 2.6.17. Found another issue that had inconsistent note sizes. Steps to replicate: 1. Open a new sheet in Calc. 2. In any cell, type some text, but do not press Enter. 3. Click on Insert -> Note. Notice that the note size is big. 4. Open a new sheet in Calc. 5. In any cell, type some text and press Enter. 6. Click on Insert -> Note. Notice that the note size is big.
Good instructions, issue confirmed. Note: images attached by joeconner can be viewed by saving (otherwise they'll open as text)

Additional observations gathered (regarding kpalagin's comments): Note height growing bug observations: I.If you add rows below a cell with misspelled word, the note height bug doesn't appear. (See: height_bug_1.jpg (id=41891)) II.If you add rows and the mis-spelled word is one row above the cell with the note, the height bug doesn't appear. (See: height_bug_2.jpg (id=41891)) I did these tests under the Windows XP sp2 operating system and Ooo version 2.1
