RTFD is an extension to the RTF format that allows for linking images. It is a
folder/bundle with the RTF file TXT.rtf and then has the images in the
directory. It currently works on the Mac only with Pages and Text Edit. I think
it also works in the Mac version of MS Word.

I'd like to second this request. It should be s simple fix, as RTF itself is
already supported. It would also help from cross-platform compatibility when
RTFD files are sent unwittingly to people on platforms other than the Mac.

This might be an interesting project for the Google Summer of Code.

From looking the wikipedia description, supporting RTFD would require parsing
most of the internal txt.rtf file in the existing RTF conversion filter,
followed by finding the media to include in the resulting ODF file from the
remaining unparsed commands..

It should be a task with fairly clear and limited scope.
