Look at the following screenshot:

The arial font is bold and black.  It sporadically is okay but more often 
turns out buggy like the screenshot demonstrates. 
 
Please fix!  (I'm using verdana in the meantime :D  )

First off, please take a look at the Font FAQ

http://www.openoffice.org/FAQs/fontguide.html

You also might want to take a look through the users mailing list to 
see if there is a solution.


If these options do not work for you, we need more information to 
debug your issue.

We need to know at least 

  The name of the Linux distribution you are using
  The version of the distribution
  X Windows version
  Fonts installed
  Video card
  Video driver

Also include the information that is requested in the Font FAQ ( 
Reporting a Font related bug ).
