Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 72140
Add links to forums, FAQ, and wiki to mailing lists taglines
Last modified: 2013-08-05 14:28:43 UTC
From a recent inquiry and reply on users@openoffice.org: Q: "...I've noticed alot of the same type of questions going by and the same answers being written back. While I'm sure it is easy enough to be robots and just regurgitate information back to people; wouldn't it be easier and less headache to actually have a bulletin board style forum setup? ..." A: "Ironically, this is one of those frequently asked questions. http://www.oooforum.org/" The purpose of this issue is to request that the taglines for the mailing lists, or at least for users@openoffice.org, have links to the forum, the FAQ page, and the wiki appended. The goal is to increase awareness of these alternatives. The only other action that comes close to this idea is CPHennessy's signature tag: "Maybe your question has been answered already? http://user-faq.openoffice.org/#FAQ" There are two problems with this approach: 1. CPH can't reply to all inquiries. 2. FAQ's require separate maintenance. On the other hand, forums and wikis tend to be self-maintaining. Regards, DT

Wiki is in place, for that purpose.
