Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69927
Lines with many repeated spaces at the end don't wrap properly
Last modified: 2006-10-02 16:15:23 UTC
There are some weird space behaviours in OpenOffice. For example, load the attached document and then press END to go the end of the line, and then press backspace. It looks like it is doing nothing. Keep going as it actually is doing something. Eventually it will end up deleting the spaces visibly. Another thing to try: 1. Open a new document 2. Hold down the space bar and watch it insert a whole lot of spaces, but as soon as it wraps over the line, it goes to the beginning of the line, not to the next line. The more spaces you put in, the more backspaces it requires to remove them.

SBA: The core problem is that a word processor prefers to be mis-used in a different way than a typewriter does :-) The visualisation of empty spaces at the end of the line is an old discussion... My very personal view: If you know how to use a word processor, you don't need double spaces (let alone entire lines with spaces! - get to know tabs and alignment!) or empty lines (master the quest of paragraph styles and their controllable bottom spacing!) to produce cool documents. Yes, UNLIKE the same task undergone with a typewriter. On the other hand, what a typewriter does is close to the most intuitive behavior of a technical device. Those were the good old days... :-) But now, back to serious business: Duplicate. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 20878 ***
