Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 69070
Saving/loading very slow where there are many drawings
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:15:52 UTC
A Writer document with graphics copied and pasted from Draw becomes very slow to save (and to load). - I use graphics created in Draw and paste them in Writer - The same graphics pasted as Metafiles speed up the process, but: file size is increased, and quality is lost. It seems that Writer saves every line and object of every graphic each time I hit the save button. Maybe Writer could use some sort of cache for graphics, or the bits of the document not edited...?
Reassigned to ES.
Please attach a sample document.
Created attachment 38854 [details] Text Document 112k for comparison
Created attachment 38855 [details] Text with Graphics, 92k
I attached two documents of the kind where I run into speed issues before. The Speed.odt is just 112k text. This saves snappily. The Speed with Graphics.odt is much shorter, and a bit smaller, but includes graphics cut and pasted from Draw. OpenOffice is slow to load and save the document with graphics. The more graphics there are, the slower. The captions make no difference, I have tried that (trying to identify the source of the problem)... The problem seems to be that graphics copied from Draw are saved as elements (lines, etc.), all inside the contents.xml. Pasting the graphics as Metafile makes the content.xml part of the document obviously much smaller; and saving a snap. Interestingly, maybe, having the same graphics all in one Draw document seems to save much more quickly.
confirming. Although there are no plain "graphics", but a couple of (gouped) drawing objects.
ES->OD: please have a look.
according to release status meeting -> 3.x
