Description Unknown 2002-08-09 20:01:23 UTC
Documents sent to a networked HP LaserJet 8100 DN print text incorrectly.
Graphics in the document are printed correctly, and the same document sent to
another HP printer (LaserJet 4000 N) on the same network prints correctly.

This problem also appears with Mozilla 1.1b, but _not_ with any Microsoft
applications (Notepad, MS Office 97, IE 5.50, etc.).

For example, the following document (no formatting, default Thorndale font):

-- START EXAMPLE --
This is a test.
ABCDEFG
abcdefg
123456789
-- END EXAMPLE --

Prints as:

-- START EXAMPLE --
7 KLV LV
$ % & '
D E F G
-- END EXAMPLE --

Changing the font to Times New Roman or Arial (which apparently have native
eqivalents on the printer) prints the same incorrect text, but in the selected font.

Selecting a 'special' font that's unlikely to have a native eqivalent on the
printer (Conga, Lucida Console, etc.) prints out the correct text in the
selected font, but with a box character (the font's "unprintable" character)
displayed between the characters. I'm using the '_' to represent the box in the
example:

-- START EXAMPLE --
T_H_I_S _ _I _S _
A_B_C_D
a_b_c_d
1_2_3_4_5
-- END EXAMPLE --

Which version of OOo are you using? 1.0.0, 1.0.1, 643?

Are you printing using PCL or Postscript?
If you are using PCL please try to access the printer
as postscript printer.
If you are using Postscript please print to a file
and append the output file here.

1.0.1

> Are you printing using PCL or Postscript?

      HP LaserJet 8100 Series
      PCL 6 Driver
      Version 4.2.0.8

Changing the driver to AdobePSGenericPostScriptPrinter solved the
problem.

Pity the PCL driver doesn't work, though.

Please have a look at your PCL printer's properties:
Device Settings -> Font Substitution Table
and check if the fonts that show this problem are
different than others.

Comment 6 hdu@apache.org 2003-01-23 16:48:19 UTC
Looks related to the internal bug #106259#, where the printer driver
provides a buggy ExtTextOutW implementation for lpDX case.
Workaround in next builds.

Comment 7 hdu@apache.org 2003-01-23 16:49:16 UTC
Setting target to OOo 1.1 beta
Comment 8 hdu@apache.org 2003-04-02 14:38:58 UTC
HDU->US: Can you help to recreate the problem (PCL-Driver + W98)?
Else there is not much I can do.
Comment 9 ulf.stroehler 2003-04-04 06:46:27 UTC
Should work in OOo 1.1 Beta1. Please comment if it works for you now.
Comment 10 thorsten.ziehm 2003-05-20 16:18:23 UTC
