Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6882
Equations unuseable after exporting to MS Word 97
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:39 UTC
Equations typed in OOo 1.0.1 are not rendered properly in Word 2000 after saving them in Word 97/2000/XP format in OOo. The equations come up unreadable in Word.

Frederic Nicot 9/11/02 Duplicated the bug on a PC running Win 2000 SP3 version 5.00.2195 with OO 1.0.1 The only difference I found is that when I open the saved document with MS word 2000, there is blank space where the equations ought to be.
Jose, thanks for taking the time to post this issue. Frederic, thanks for verifying this issue. The real issue here is that Word is not picking up the OLE link to OOo formula. Frederic, if you enable the "field codes" option in Word, you'll see the the field that you are referring to as the "blank space". Go to Tools->Load/Save->Microsoft Office. Under the [S] ( Save ) column, make sure "MathType to OpenOffice Math / OpenOffice Math to MathType" is checked. Now that your formula will export out to Word, you will run into these issues: Issue 2192 and issue 3839. The next step is to figure out if the OLE formula issue is something to do with our configuration or if it's a known issue. Thank you for using and supporting OOo.
Partially duplicated in Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 643. The majority of the equations export properly either with the MathType conversion on and off. There are 2 defects with the export: Vector arrows above the x and u letters do not export to Word properly. The absolute sign ( double vertical lines ) appear as question marks in Word.
Created attachment 3251 [details] OOo 643 export to Word format. MathType conversion not on.
TL->CMC: I think this is yours.
The issue with the vector arrows relates to the wmf preview not drawing them correctly, see issue 8673
Working on this.

I though the following is a related bug to this issue. I am using OOo 643C on linux. The attachment (eqn.gif) shows that the divide line is not displayed when exported to Word (I have the Load/Save convertion on). My equation is: e = du over dx + 1 over 2 left [ { left ( du over dx right )^2 + left ( dv over dx right )^2} right ] I ran into this problem wherever I used "over".
