Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6801
RTF Microsoft - Bullet Lists not imported
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:43:23 UTC
I have to share files with users of MS office. I do this using rtf. File formats coming into openoffice are fine/livable. File formatting when (re)opened in MS office appear to be lost. This may be a defect. It certainly is a marketing issue as it will certainly prevent migration where file sharing is important.
Mr/Ms Turvey, thanks for posting. Please attach the RTF file that you use to duplicate the issue you have listed. Please clearly list the defects in the RTF file when opened in Word. Thanks.

I found the bullet format, for example, is not correct. I use WinNT4 SP6, OO v1.0.1 Steps to reproduce: 1. Open file test6801_orginal.rtf (the file is created in Wordpad) in OO Writer. 2. Donot do anything. SaveAs the file right away. Note that the bullets already lost. (in my case the file is test6801_OO.rtf) 3. Open file you just save in Wordpad or Word Viewer. The bullets are lost. Note: before close the file test6801_OO.rtf after save it, I got a message say "Saving in external formats may have caused information loss. Do you want to continue?"

Thanks for the addition information Tony. Duplicated on Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OO 1.0.1 English. Bullet lists in Microsoft RTF files are not imported. It seems like OOo likes bullet lists to be specified using \bullet syntax. However, MS uses formatting like this: {\*\pn\pnlvlblt\pnf1\pnindent720{\pntxtb\'b7}} \plain\f3\fs20 {\pntext\f1\'b7\tab}First bullet\par {\pntext\f1\'b7\tab}Second bullet\plain\f2\fs20 \par

URL where I was looking at the Microsoft RTF spec: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en- us/dnrtfspec/html/rtfspec_16.asp
Same issue caused with rtf bullets saved via Dragon PAD (naturally speaking).
Duplicated on Win NT 4.0 SP6a, OOo 643
JA->MRU: reassigned to you...
MRU->CMC: The bullet list is even not imported from the file...
Exciting rtf behaviour for you to investigate.
Looks like an inompatiblilty between the way in which wordpad saves bullets and the way in which word or openoffice does it.
setting target
Set to higher priority -> P2.
This is working in SRX644q2
Fix tested with internal build 644q2. Works fine.
Fix verified with internal build. It will be part of next Milestone of OO 1.1 Beta.
