Description nicosch 2006-07-03 14:52:04 UTC
Metafile images containing a closed shape with color/gradient inside, will
printed/exported without cliping the color/gradient.

See attached documents:
1. Drawing of image.
2. Metafile image to place in text,
   created from (1).
3. Text file with placed image.
4. PDF export from (3),
   print out looks same.

I checked with "2.0.2 German version WIN XP: [680m5(Build9011)]" and can
confirm the problem also with testfiles attached by nicosch and also with my own
testfiles. I also see the problem with bitmap filling.

But: Print is ok with HO Officejet 6110
Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-07-03 16:42:06 UTC
I also see the problem completely in 1.1.4 and with .emf created from 1.1.4 DRAW.

It's not only a WRITER probem, I also see the problem when I export a document
to PDF containing those bitmap or gradient .emf images from CALC and DRAW. So I
change Component.

Currently I was only able to test with .emf files created with OOo. It would be
interesting to know whether the mistake also happens with gradient .emf images
from other draw applications; unfortunately I can not find an applicable image.
Comment 7 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-07-03 16:51:03 UTC
Same Problem with .wmf images created from 2.0.2 DRAW (other versions not tested)

This is because the emf contains XOR operations, which are impossible on a
printer/PDF device. Therefore, adapted title & issue type (it has always been
like this - workarounding it is possible, though imposes some effort, as all
regions covered by an XOR operation would have to be pre-rasterized into a bitmap).
Comment 11 thb 2006-07-03 17:40:41 UTC
In fact, this happens on all platforms (being a general shortcoming).
Comment 12 nicosch 2006-07-03 19:40:45 UTC
Print out from Writer to Adobe PDF Writer, and Ghostscript/PdfCreator shows
wrong cliping.

OO PDF Export from Drawing is correct!
Comment 13 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-07-03 20:05:26 UTC
I confirm, it's not only a problem with native OOo PDF export. I tried with
FREE_PDF (no idea what of my various GS in uses, I believe 8.13), and I saw the
same bad rectangle result for form in text.odt as with OOo PDF export.

No idea whether that's included in Summary "... raster op XOR" or whether we
have to open a new issue for this

@nicosch:
You really get a correct OOo PDF export result if you insert 'form.emf' to a new
DRAW document? It's hard for me to believe that.
Comment 14 nicosch 2006-07-03 21:44:53 UTC
@rainerbielefeld

I get a wrong result if I include the EMF in Draw and export it.

But you get a right result if you perform direct PDF export from the original
drawing (first attached file).
Comment 15 thb 2006-07-03 22:16:02 UTC
@nicosch: you get a correct result with the original file, either way (both
printing and pdf export), because OOo 'knows' that it's now printing/exporting,
and avoids the problematic XOR actions. But since XOR _is_ a legal action in
emf/wmf/svm, both OOo-generated and external metafiles will contain and trigger
this bug.
