Description marianoi 2006-06-08 18:32:27 UTC
I work with Origin Pro for creating my charts. The generally have something like
300 data points (not much). When I paste them into Impress as Origin graphs and
project my presentation the graphs are all messes up showing random lines all
over the embedded object. In the screen the chart looks ok most of the times,
although sometimes it is also messed up. If I paste the chart as a png file it
shows ok.

I find this bug a stopper; I cannot look so unprofessional when presenting my
work. This problem does not happen with Power Point.

Thanks for your hard work. I hope you read this and fine a solution. I love OOo!

Cheers

Mariano

send it to me by email.
Pls. also contribute some information concerning your OS, PC, projector system.

Did you guys get my file?
Comment 3 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-06-09 07:19:58 UTC
@marianoi:
Yes!

wg@rainerbielefeld: since the issue is on my account it would be nice if you
could send the bugdoc to my mail adress. Thank you.

marianoi told me:
Video card is an ATI Radeon X1400, same problem on other PC using a S3 generic
video card (512MB RAM, AMD Sempron 2800+ 80GB HHD Win XP Home and Ubuntu Linux
Dapper).
Comment 6 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-06-09 18:16:52 UTC
@marianoi:
can you please contribute some information concering the history of creation of
that document? Embedded chart objects seem to be no OOo-charts, but .wmf
replacement images. Additionally, I am not able to edit the "Chart objects" as
charts.
As example I attach a test presentation with an original OOo chart, pls. see the
differende when doubleclick ib the chart object. Will you be so kind to test my
presentation with your beamer?

Original OOo presentation with charts to be tested on reporter's beamer
Comment 8 marianoi 2006-06-09 19:02:12 UTC
I created the charts using Origin Pro 7.5 (OriginLab) as I always do. I just
copy page in Origin and paste them into my presentation. In such a way I can
edit the plots. If you have origin intalled in your pc you should be able to
modify the charts.

I think the problem is the amount of data points. Only the charts with a large
number of data points failed to show.

I will test that file, but i am sure it will be ok as it only has a few datapoints.

Thanks

@marianoi:
My suspect is that we have a .wmf - viewing problem or something like that) and
not a presentation problem, let's see.
Unfortunately the beamer I wanted to use for my test is away - FIFA-WM :-(
Comment 10 marianoi 2006-06-09 20:54:51 UTC
Thanks a lot,

Could you generate a file with something like 3000 data points and compare
between an Origin chart embedded and a native OOo one? (I'd do it myself but I
do not remember how to randomly generate numbers...)

If I am right only the OOo chart would project properly...

Cheers

OOo Chart with >> 20000 data points in presentation as alternative test document
Comment 12 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-06-11 10:11:28 UTC
@marianoi:
'mynewwithbigchart.odp' contains a chart with more than 20'000 data points, so
that you can compare beamer results.
Can you please create an "unconfidential" test document containing only one of
the problematical charts, for example only slide "Introduction to Inhibition by
Vanadates", only with charts, no text and no headings?

General
can someone else please take over? I will not have a beamer for the next days
(or may be weeks)
Comment 13 wolframgarten 2006-06-12 10:00:37 UTC
@rainerbielefeld:Currently the issue is still on my account. As I have asked
earliert on: couls you send me the original document, please?!
Comment 14 marianoi 2006-06-12 16:10:59 UTC
Ok, I will test the OOo chart with the 20000 data points in the beamer.

I'll let you know the results

Thanks

Mariano
Comment 15 marianoi 2006-06-12 16:16:37 UTC
one more, could you also send the actual data points. I can compare on Origin
chart against a OOo one in the same file.
Comment 16 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-06-12 17:29:15 UTC
I sent confidential test document to "wg" after approval from "marianoi".
Comment 17 marianoi 2006-06-14 05:06:36 UTC
Hi Guys,

I am still waiting for the 20,000 data points!

Thanks

Sent!
Comment 19 marianoi 2006-06-14 14:17:53 UTC
Hello,

may be it was my fault. What I like to do is plotting the same chart you gave me
using Origin Pro in order to compare them both. With the data points I'll create
an Impress file with both charts embedded.

I could not extract the data points from the file you attached last time. Is
there a way of doing that?

Thanks and sorry for the confusion

Regards

Mariano
Comment 20 Rainer Bielefeld 2006-06-14 16:56:12 UTC
@marianoi.
I recommend to wait some days, may be wg's tests will have the required results.
If not, we can continue further tests.

I would be interested in knowing whether 'mynewwithbigchart.odp' will be
displayed correctly with your beamer (I hope it is "complex" enough ot compare
with your Origin Pro 7.5-charts), and if not, wehther powepoint will show a
better result.
Comment 21 marianoi 2006-07-07 14:26:51 UTC
Hello,

Any confirmation on this?

I checked the file you sent me and it projects ok with the OOo chart. But it
does not with my Origin Files....

Cheers
Comment 22 thb 2006-08-09 12:43:45 UTC
@marianoi: hm. sounds funny, no idea what could be the problem. can you somehow
produce a screen shot from the broken beamer display (or take a picture)? if the
content is confidential, please mail it to wg or me.

And for the records: does this problem occur on Windows, on Linux, or both? And
exactly which version of OOo do you run - really a 2.0.2? And from where did you
obtain it?

Further interesting would be whether this also happens with a 1.1.5 (still
available here: http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.5/index.html).
Comment 23 wolframgarten 2006-08-09 13:09:36 UTC
With a screen resolution of 800x600 I was not able to see any problems under
WinXP with a current build m180 (not fullscreen or window mode).
