Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6544
[RFE] for date and time field controls in forms, allow for _real_ NULL defaults
Last modified: 2007-02-19 10:06:34 UTC
Currently, date and time controls can get a default value, which is used for initially displaying such a control, and for resetting it (e.g. on a new record in a form). However, both controls handle a NULL default somewhat strange: They use the current system date resp. time in such a case. The reason for this is HTML compatibility. We should add an option to these controls to allow for real NULL defaults, as the current behaviour is often irritating users, and subject to change requests.

adding "needhelp" keyword - perhaps external developers do want to have a look at this?

Inserted the word 'field' into Summary so as to bring it up in more searches and avoid further duplicates. Unfortunately I'm not a prgrammer :-( P h i l l

When using postgresql 8.1 jdbc i get openoffice 2.0.2rc3 when using formated text field i get SQL Status: 42804 ERROR: column "birthdate" is of type date but expression is of type character varying I can enter a date then save the record, then erase the date and save the record and it works with no error. it seam like oo is not casting to the right type. it seams like the formated text field is changing null to something else. works fine with regular text fields

Hi, this is fixed in the current master. The current master is available at http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html I close this issue now. Bye Marc
reopened, as date fields in a grid control still have the default "today" (and it is not possible to enter Null values)
reassigned
well, it actually "defaults" to the last value which you previously encountered in this column, or today/now if you did not yet encounter a NULL value. Fixed in CWS dba22a.

targeting to 2.2, since the fix is part of a CWS aiming for this release
