Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6471
Include instructions on how to upgrade to a newer version of oo.
Last modified: 2008-05-17 23:16:30 UTC
The installation instructions need to include information on how to properly upgrade an Open Office installation. For example... Right now I would like to upgrade my windows net install to version 1.0.1 from 1.0. Do I just install over the top of 1.0? Do I need to rerun the client setup on each workstation? Will my users preferences be saved?
I believe that the install instrucitons mention that you can't upgrade -- ie that you need to install in a new directory. That's fine so far as it goes. But there should be a test in the install routine to see if another version exists. If there is an sversion(.ini|rc) that will tell you, and this must be tested for already. If there is one, the install routine should offer to copy over the user customisation files to the new installation. I think that almost all of them are in {userdir}\config\soffice.cfg
>I believe that the install instrucitons mention that you can't upgrade > -- ie that you need to install in a new directory. I don't see that anywhere. Maybe I missed it. If that's true does it apply to the server setup? The client setup? Both? If we are forced to install to a new directory on the server that creates a lot of work with changing permissions, drive mappings, quotas, etc. Also how do we uninstall the old version of the client?
Shouldn't this be assigned to the Install component? All I can do is document the process.
This is fixed in later releases. If you feel it is still a problem please reopen this.
