Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6455
Incorrect number of lines per page when importing word doc
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:36 UTC
A MS Word document is opened (win2000/word 2000) and 50 lines are created - paper size letter, margins 2.54 cm top and bottom, Arial 12 font. The first page ends with line number 46. Save the document and re-open with OOo writer. The first page now ends at line 47, margins are the same, font is reported as Arial 12.
Please test this for me...: Load the document in msword and in tools->options->compatability-> find "Use printer metrics to layout document" near the end of the list and set it to be checked. Does that affects the lines per page in word ?
Setting the tools->options->compatibility->Use printer metrics to lay out document to checked does NOT change the number of lines on the page.
Jim, does this problem still exist in OO 1.0.1?
Jim, if you find this problem still exists in OOo 1.0.1, please reopen this issue and attach a file that we can use to reproduce this issue.
As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved <wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.

The issue also applies in openoffice 1.0.1
Reassigned.
This problem is well know and not affected by the filter. Writer uses different metrics regarding line- and character spacings. MRU->AMA: Is it planned to get even more to MS's metrics than we just did?
Yes, our plan is to evaluate the differences and to get rid of it.

for interested users: In word enable "tools->options->compatability->don't use leading (extra space) between rows of text", and enable "use printer metrics to lay out document" before importing and then compare the two documents. These are the winword settings which match our default layout style best.
With our "Extra Leading" flag this problem is resolved, isn't it?
Yes. cmc->mru: In workspace extleading this has the same no of lines in word and in writer now that extra leading is available in writer. cmc->fme: Grats :-), extra leading looks good.
