Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 6295
Toolbar > Customize > Buttons is a huge resource hog
Last modified: 2008-05-18 00:09:06 UTC
OOo 1.0 on Win98 / PIII 500 MHz 256 MB RAM Toolbar > Customize > Buttons uses nearly all available System and GDI resources. Percent available Windows resources: System User GDI 70 70 82 after fresh reboot 66 66 77 Mozilla browser opened 66 66 80 Mozilla browser closed 66 66 75 OOo 1.0 opened 13 66 13 Buttons dialog opened; click down through all buttons (Resource Meter in the red; unrecoverable errors may occur) 66 66 68 Buttons and customize dialogs closed (failure to free GDI resources completely ?) 9 66 9 Buttons dialog opened again; click down through all buttons 65 66 65 Buttons and customize dialogs closed Is it possible to use fewer resources to display the buttons? Are all requested resources being freed when done?
as discussed with ssa, please have a look at that beast
I cannot see a bad behavior in the framework code. It looks like a problem in the base implementation of the toolbar code located in VCL. It uses to much GDI resources to display all toolbar buttons. I can reproduce a hugh rise of GDI resources during scrolling through the buttons of the toolbar (from about 100 to 1250 objects) under Windows XP! So for me this looks more like a bug than a wish for an enhancement.
I will have a look at it. Perhaps we can optimize resource usage for toolbox bitmaps not being shown.
Fixed in OOo 643.
