Description rlacroix 2006-03-04 02:09:00 UTC
The "Save" command remains inactive if the only change in the spreadsheet is the
zoom scale factor.

Workarounds: use the "Save As" command to overwrite the file with the new scale
factor, or make an inconsequential change such as re-entering a cell value to
mark the spreadsheet as modified.

I checked with "2.0.1 RC5 German version WIN XP: [680m1(Build8990)]" and can
confirm the behaviour as reported.

This is not a special spreadsheet issue, in no OOo application a zoom change
will set the '"document modified" status'. This is not new, I was used to that
from 1.1.4.

I do not believe that this is a bug, and for me the current behaviour is m
appropriate. Why should the user be asked whether he wants to save the
"modified" document, if he only changed the zoom to have a bette view on some
detail?. That might be worrying.

Of course, may be that someone will decide that that new zoom factor should be
the new standard for that document and wants to save that without '"save as"
tricks', but my opinion is that that that is a very seldom need.

Might be an additional checkbox in Menu "Tools - OOo - General" for 'Change zoom
factor sets '"document modified" status' (as we have it for 'Printing') will be
useful, but to me it seems to be too much work for too few user advantage.

The checkbox is a good idea. I would not want to sacrifice OOo consistency for
the sake of MS bug-compatibility without having the choice of degrading the
default OOo behaviour.

MS Office 2002 SP3 behaviours:

Word - zoom does not set "document modified" status.
Excel and PPT - zoom seems to set "document modified" status (might be something
else going on behind the scenes that affects the document).

Word and Excel - the save command is always "enabled"; whether it actually works
is another matter...

Excel: open document, change zoom, save - document saved, including zoom factor
PPT: same result as Excel
Word: open document, change zoom, save - document not saved!
Word: open document, change zoom and something else, save - document saved,
including zoom factor

Hi,

changes in View settings always doesn't set the modified flag as they only
change a view of a document. IMHO we should keep it as is.
