Description Unknown 2002-06-25 01:29:37 UTC
Open writer from Start Menu | Programs | OpenOffice.org 1.0 | OpenOffice.org
Writer

Choose Format | Styles | Catalog

Select "Index Styles" from lower drop-down combo-box

Select "Contents 1" and hit "Modify" button

click on any other font

This immediately crashes the app, bringing up this dialog box:

============================================================
OpenOffice.org 1.0: soffice.exe - Application Error
============================================================
(x) The instruction at "0x1c826b95" referenced memory at
    "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".

    Click on OK to terminate the application.
    Click on CANCEL to debug the application

               [OK]   [Cancel]
============================================================

A similar problem is created when modifying styles from the
open Styles window when editing a document.

After this error, Writer will not open again until machine
is rebooted. (It hangs when run -- apparently looking for
something that is now munged in memory?)

Thanks for the good instructions Jeff.

After you hit the modify button, I assume you are going to the Font
tab and changing the font?

sorry, i missed that. yeap, font tab and choosing another font.

actually, my company just switched me to a different machine running
win2000 (not win/nt 4.0 as before), and, with the OOo i installed on
this new machine, i don't have the problem.

i removed OOo from the old box before they moved it, but if
necessary, i can get at it, and reinstall OOo again to see if it
continues to have the same problem..

Thanks for the update Jeff.

Considering it works on your new machine, I'm closing this issue for
now.

If you are able to duplicate it on a clean machine with 1.0.1, just
pop a note in this issue.
