Description stargeizer 2006-01-11 20:27:27 UTC
(For some reason issue tracker is not working for me, so this maybe a duplicate
or not... sorry about it..)

As far as OOo 2.0.1 i'm getting some "copy/paste" problem whein i try to
copy/paste from web pages... 100% reproduceable, on windows.

Go to: http://www.geocities.com/fisicaquimica99/radiacion10.htm
#1: Using MSIE:
Copy any paragraph (yes... paragraph!) and paste into writer...
instant crash, but the program won't exit... just will stay freeze and getting
100% cpu usage on w2k and 0% usage on XP. (beats me why).

#2: Using Firefox:
Copying any paragraph will make OOo crash or not randomly... no way to
determine when realy, but sometimes do it (win2k/XP tested).. where is 100%
reproduceable is in the bottom of the page (the link is called "volver"), copy
anything up to the link in the bottom (include it) and try to paste in writer.
OOo stops responding even up to 1/2 hour before crash...

now i'm downloading the lastest snapshoot build to test it just in case.

Hwoarang -> J:

No crash here. (OOo 2.0.1 Build 8990 WinXP SP2)
Using Firefox and MSIE.

Pasting only one paragraph no problem.
But if I past all page content Writer becomes slowly. (Wondering why)

But no crash.

Can you reproduce with latest snapshot ?

Thank you.

J. --> Hwoarang

With the lasttest snapshoot is not crashing... but it will freezee up to 1
(one) hour in our slowlest machine (Celeron 1.4 Ghz) according with the
following:

Machine Spec #1:
Celeron @ 1.4 Ghz
384 Mb Ram
Windows 2000 SP4+SR1+Updates
Tested on MSIE 6
Copy/paste Anything from the web pages (any) will freeze the app at least 1
hour before becomes responsive again... but after that OOo will be unusable
(slow is not the best word to define it). And it will have to be forced to
exit (windows takes it as "no response" app with 100% CPU usage)

Machine Spec #2:
Athlon XP 1500 (@ 1.2 GHz)
512 MB Ram
Windows 2000 SP4+SR1+Updates
MSIE 6:
Copy/paste Anything from the page will freeze the app for up to 35-40
minutes... same as before, after that will be unusable, windows reports it
as "No response" with 0% CPU usage (!) )
Firefox 1.5:
No frezees with any text.. but include the words "volver" (is a link), and OO
will freeze with no return. Task manager will say "no Response" at soffice.bin
and with no CPU usage at all

Machine Spec #3:
Notebook: Centrino @ 2.0 Ghz
512 Mb Ram
Windows XP SP2+updates
Same as before, with the exception that with one paragraph no problem at all,
but more than half of page will produce slowness until death... but with no
measure time, since is not my notebook.. just to test what happen with XP...
task manager reports "no response" and soffice.bin doesn't have any cpu usage
at time.

Machine Spec #4:
My House: Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2 Ghz.
512 Mb Ram
Windows XP SP2+updates
MSIE 6:
The same thing... no crashes but unresponsive, cut and paste one paragraph
doesn't produce any problem... trying the full page and OO will become
unresponsive.
Firefox: Same as before.

Also, trying to run "clipbrd" (the clipboard viewer) when OO is freeze will do
nothing and when OO is forced to close, the clipboard is active again... with
no content. Tested with antivirus (Panda) and without antivirus and the result
are the same.

These were the tests i did today, altough were kinda incomplete (just tested
the web mentioned, no time to test others anyway)

Thank for your time and comment.

(i'm insane.. i already know XD... and sorry for my english)

Can reproduce the crash neither the freeze anymore with OOo-dev m152 with Win98SE.

Maybe related with Win2k ?

stargeizer, do you still having problems with m152 ?

Thank you.

Under windows 2000/XP/XP SP 2 there's still the lag from pasting MSIE pages,
but no crash this time.

From firefox, there's no lag when just pasting text, but when pasting some
links there's lag and OOo stops responding for a while, and then will become
slow for everithing, as before.

Maybe is a problem related to win NT cores (¿¿Memory leak??)

Let's sum up: ther is NO crash here but at least a freeze or rather a huge
performance problem.

Please check that you have filled (if needed):
"Tools - Options - Internet - Proxy"

Comment 9 stargeizer 2006-03-15 16:44:54 UTC
Filled values as needed, just for testing purposes (i set up a linux box proxy
(squid) just for testing this)..

Problem reproduceable with and without proxies enabled/needed.

As i said before, since 2.0.1, there's no crash anymore, (it was in 2.0, but no
t anymore somebody can remove "crash" from the report) just a big drop in
performance. As from 2.0.2 only copy the page up to the end (where is the
alleged code showed by jjpalacios) produces a problem now.

If the internet connection is turned off between the paste operation, the
program will frezee on machines at work... (typically Celerons@1.2 Ghz, 512 MB
Ram), but on the machine in my house (Athlon 64 3000+, 1 GB Ram), there's only
1-2 minutes of freeze, and after that the program will recover again, just slow
as before.

Windows 9x/me does,'t show any sign of problems, as far as i can test... Just
happens on NT/2000/XP systems... can't test on linux.

Depending on if Internet is turned on/off:
- Internet ON - slow performance after pasting: I cannot reproduce it.
- Internet Off - Program not reacting while pasting -> duplicate of issue 7553.
