Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 60380
if keyboard shortcut not possible (particularly File->Save), return to current position in document
Last modified: 2015-11-22 22:39:19 UTC
If I press ALT-F|S (File|Save) for a document which has not been changed since the last save, the focus remains on the File menu and I must press ESC to return to the document. I don't know about Word, but WordPerfect simply pats me on the head when I make a rudundant save like that and returns me directly to the document (actually, for all I know, it might really go through the redundant save procedure). That seems to me the right idea. Why discourage users from saving their documents as often as they remember to do so? I think it would be an easy fix. JAS
this problem affects all not active keyboard shortcuts. according to http://qa. openoffice.org/issue_handling/workflowcharts/RFE_issues_by_QA.sxd I reassign this issue to requirements and set the status to New
it has to be considered whether the user should be informed about the failed command or not. At least for the save command editing should continue as if it was successful. Other commands can have the user think it was successful when in fact it was not.
Still not fixed in 3.0 rc1! This is exactly the kind of thing that puts off new users. It should be fixed before 3.0 is released.
I agree with Lars...make the redundant save attempt "transparent" and continue with the editing or whatever. But please DO NOT carry out an actual save, as this will needlessly change a file's date/time stamping and cause inaccurate file recordkeeping! A user may not want a stamp change when nothing has actually changed, and many of us make the manual (and possibly redundant -- particularly if 'autosave' has just been done) save just before shutting down Writer as a "feel good" safety maneuver. E.g., when I am working on multiple files with duplicate content (one for an e-book and another for actual printing) I am concerned about correct date/time stamping (:รพ). Thank you, and excuse my recent post for the same problem! Webbie in CO
