Description kepeter 2005-11-29 10:17:40 UTC
I have a MS Word 9.0 document (616 pages) which runs over 15 minutes and still
not opened (it takes less than a minute to open with MS Word).

Confirm that OpenOffice.org 2.0.0 (on Windows 2000 Pro) does take much, much
longer to open attachment 31891 [details] than Microsoft Word 2000.

Summary of testing that lead to attachment 31947 [details]:

Using Word 2000, I extracted sequences of pages to isolate the slowness. Then I
tried to open on OpenOffice.org 2.0.0 Linux with fast CPU. Page numbers may be
approximate.
- pages 450 to 616: very slow, gave up
- pages 500 to 550: 7 seconds
- pages 500 to 575: very slow, gave up
- pages 500 to 613: very slow, gave up
- pages 525 to 615: 30 seconds
- pages 550 to 560: 3 seconds*
- pages 560 to 575: 7 seconds*
- pages 550 to 575: 40 seconds*
- pages 575 to 616: 10 seconds

* Notice that breaking up 550-575 in two pieces takes total 10 seconds to load,
but whole piece 550-575 takes 40 seconds (4x more than parts).

MRU->FME: it needs extremely long to reformat this CTL document. Partly it is
written in multi-column layout. Maybe this makes the performance problem.
